What's YOUR Name?

Dearest Aditi Kumari Macaraeg-Nathanson,

You are out of the womb at last! Today you are 2 weeks old, you're super vocal, and you eat ALL the time ;). Mama and Poppy have been getting to know you - we've holed ourselves in the room for 10 days (Mama has anyway, Poppy goes and makes food, runs errands, and does laundry). Every day that goes by, we each learn a little bit more about each other.

So shall we start where we left off? Where was that, oh yeah, we were waiting for your appearance in the flesh so to speak. You were due on the 17th of September. When we hit the 38 week mark though, we found out that Navaratri was starting on the 23rd. Something told Mama that you were going to wait for that final day. The midwives well-meaningly suggested we start a little gentle prodding to induce labor but Mama did a Zhouyi and it said no go, wait, you weren't ready yet... or maybe Mama wasn't ready yet lol.

To make matters more interesting, Auntie Arundhati and Uncle Mahatma brought a cold home and Mama got it too. Lots of sneezing, coughing, and stuffy noses abounded and Mama wasn't sure she could get you out safely and even if she did, she was worried you would get the cold too. So the clock kept ticking by. Everyone except your aunties and uncles in the house kept asking when you were going to come out. Mommy was running out of time to have you at home and Kaiser wanted to do more serious medical things to make it all happen!

But finally Mommy got over the cold and was able to follow natural methods to coax her body and yours to get ready for the labor. Funny but it happened so fast (it seemed) yet it took over 3 days. Two days of pre-labor and and long period of active labor (so they say). It felt like we kept taking the midwives by surprise somehow. They would think, "Ok, we're at this stage which will take so-and-so-long. But let's check anyway." Then they would check and find out we were actually at the next stage already!

But you wouldn't switch over from Mommy's right side. You liked it there and even if we got you to move over for a moment, you would swing right back. So Beah reached in and pressed some buttons in Mommy's womb, making it contract in a big wave, which rolled you right over to the correct side. When it was actually time to push you out - the midwives had asked Mommy to take a nap with Daddy but by then, you were READY!

So it was Push! Push! Push! but Mommy had run out of apana from all the natural stuff she took to get the contractions going. Fortunately for us, Auntie Kirana and Auntie Candika came in and gave us acupuncture and massage helping our downward pushing and out you came! Back at Yoga Mandala, Dharmanidhi and kula were performing the puja for the last day of Navaratri - for the goddess Sarasvati. Auntie Kirana called and said you were coming and the mantras and offerings were done for yours and Mommy's safety. Daddy was really wonderful helping Mommy with all the energy of your birth and then when it was time, he caught you no problem as you came out fast after all that pushing!

And then there you were, in Mommy's arms, looking up at us with that serious face of yours. I swear, your brows knit even before you took your first breath. And what did Mommy think when she first saw you? Well first she cried happy tears and then she thought, "Who is this little person?" And then she thought, "It doesn't matter," and you started suckling (although Beah had to help - more on the breast feeding saga later).

So there you were and it was amazing. We have so many people to thank and so much to be grateful for. Your birth was a truly beautiful thing and out of it all, came you!

Next up - the 10 days inside :)

We Love You Froggers!
Mommy
