First Post from Thailand

Dear Aditi,

Mama's cut off from internet right now and it was driving her a little cuckoo but she's getting over it.

Well, here we are in Phu Rua, about 10 minutes east of the land that we're about to spend most of the rest of our lives on. Did I ever mention the land? I can't remember.

Many years before you were born, mama decided that she wanted to live outside the US. The East Bay move to study with Daddy Dharmanidhi was supposed to be the last move within the states. Then Daddy Dji mentioned his plans to open a retreat center and the "final" location choice was Thailand. Don't worry about the "", when you're old enough to understand, you will ;).

So here we are. We aren't actually living on the land yet, we're living in a hotel room on a resort in Phu Rua. It's sort of an Extended Stay Thailand except there isn't a kitchen. It's nice enough and you seem to be enjoying yourself. You're getting a few bug bites but that's part of the territory. You're young enough that you don't scratch so that's good, you won't scar.

Not sure about the bites your bro RoRo's been giving you lately though. I hope that by the time you start reading this you've learned to fight back already. At this point you stand and take it. Sometimes you're even the one to stick your finger (or hand) into the jaw of the proverbial lion. But you seen to have a short memory and his antics don't make you want to hang out with him any less. It will be nice to see what you two are like together as you get older.

So you know, Papa was left back in the states to work and take care of grandma and grandpa. You're Lola doesn't need any taking care of so far and we might see her in May. Papa will hopefully be by to visit us in March but I don't know for how long. I'm crossing my fingers that it doesn't take too long for us to all be together for good. I don't know if you are sad but I know you notice he's missing and when I show you his pictures (so you don't forget what he looks like) you start to act up a little and I'm afraid it's because your upset. But then again, I could just be reading into it and your acting up is coinciding with the viewings.

You're quite the smart little girl both physically and mentally (at least I think so ;). You're very agile and you've got some words down like, "hot, hat, bye bye, nana (for banana), wawa (for water)." Ro's ahead of the talking game but not by much. You can take directions now too - you can close the door, get your diapers, put things away, and I've seen you wipe the floor, which is totally cute. Will you still think it's cute when it's your chore lol?

Anyway, the Thai folks love you. I thought that maybe they wouldn't notice you so much since Ro is the most striking of the two of you out here what with his fair looks, but your cuteness is getting it's kudos from the locals so you're getting your share of hugs and pick ups. You aren't so good with it yet, still have that stranger anxiety from the states. Maybe that goes away soon - would be nice.

We are in limbo right now baby. Don't know if that's just me or both of us. Hold on kid, we'll see where this wild ride takes us!

All my Love,
Mama
